Nandos Singapore finally gets Halal certified!

Monday, July 1, 2013 / , , ,

MynameisQUE;

I think I speak for the Muslim community when I say that the only place we used to be able to enjoy a meal at Nando's is Malaysia. Worry no more because Nando's is FINALLY Halal certified from today onwards!

View the announcement from MUIS here.

Anyway, I'm heading to Nando's with my mum this weekend for a food tasting session. Any recommendations? Leave a comment below!

Cheers,

Some branches of Nando's in the UK use halal chicken. But the restaurant as a whole does not have a halal certification because it serves alcohol.

Hello B, Yup that's right. But I'm glad Nandos is finally halal!

Why should Nandos in Singapore be Halal when only 12% of Singapore's population is Muslim? Fast food chains in Islamic countries don't cater for other religious customs - they cater for the majority in the local community.

Totally agreeable for fast food chains in Islamic countries to have a Halal menu, but in countries that do not have a Muslim majority - these chains should stick to the menu their founders were made famous for.

@Anonymous

Thanks for airing your thoughts on my blog. I spoke to the Nandos team and they shared with me that the chicken they used have always been from a halal supplier. In the past, they were not halal certified because they were serving alcohol.

From a business perspective, the muslim community has a limited number of halal restaurant food choices. It is a strategic business move to penetrate into the muslim market, thus the move to get a halal certification. At this stage, you'll already notice that the brand has reached out to a new group of customers, leaving other non - halal competitors like Tony Romas, Kenny Rogers etc in the backseat.

Cheers,
Que

Yes but if they turn the restaurant halal and all 12% Muslims go there to eat, they will make 12% more money
